The application for first-grade admission in Sofia’s schools is becoming entirely digital. Following the end of March this year, parents will be able to submit applications and enroll their children entirely online through the updated system.

Parents will no longer have to wait in queues and obtain and submit documents on paper. All inquiries will be officially provided electronically. The only exception will be the court certificate for an adopted child. The system will contain information about the vacancies in the 168 Sofia municipal schools, which will welcome about 12,000 first-graders. It will also show a map of the schools, and each parent will be able to see the district a given school is located in.

The new system should be opened on 29 March. It can be accessed at the formerly known web-address kg.sofia.bg/isodz and it won’t be available for a few days before its official launch. This should not bother parents, as the interruption is necessary before the launch of the system with the updated functionalities.

Users who already have an account in the system for applying to nurseries and kindergartens will be able to use their current account to submit the applications. For security and data protection purposes, the system can simply request a password change.

The requirements for first-grade admission in the schools in Sofia remain the same. Following the launch of the system on 29 March, the actual registration will begin on 19 April and will last until 28 May. Then the system will remain locked until 4 June, when the first results from the admission will be announced.

Parents who cannot or do not want to submit applications electronically, can do so on the spot in the schools. The registration and applications for the first grade will be carried out between 19.04.2021 and 28.05.2021.

The new system was presented by the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education, Sports and Youth Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Chobanov and Mr. Gencho Kerezov, Deputy Mayor for Digitalization, Innovation and Economic Development, and is a long-awaited relief for the parents of the first graders in Sofia. The digitalization of the admission in schools was one of the first tasks of Innovative Sofia’s team since the foundation of the unit as a department responsible for digitalization and innovation in Sofia Municipality. Its implementation is a joint effort with the Mayor of Sofia, Ms. Yordanka Fandakova, for whom the project was a priority; the institutions and organisations, involved in the process; the school administrations, and others. The development of the new system was carried out under active and strict civil control.
