First Intelligent Cities Challenge City Lab (Online). Everyone is Invited.

25 September, 2020

From 28 September to 2 October, the 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge is officially kicking off with the first ICC City Lab. All participating cities, including Sofia, will attend a series of online events to network and further explore the themes of the Challenge.

The first day of the 1st ICC City Lab is open to the public and will focus on the EU’s vision for the 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge, the role of cities for a green and digital recovery and how local ecosystem mobilization can support such a recovery. The event will bring together over 400 attendees from the 126 selected cities and leading experts from the EU and beyond to start shaping the cities of tomorrow.

Everyone is invited to join the event and participate in the panel discussions.

Innovative Sofia, on behalf of Sofia Municipality, will manage the participation of the city in the European Commission’s initiative. The Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) is the latest of the European Commission’s initiatives to build a green Europe by fostering intelligent and sustainable growth across European cities.

In July, after careful deliberation, 126 applications were selected to take part in the Challenge. The group includes new ICC applications to join up with the cities that took part in the Digital Cities Challenge (DCC) predecessor initiative, including 8 EU mentor cities. Sofia is among the DCC cities and it is great to have two more Bulgarian cities joining the initiative – Haskovo and Vratsa.

Under the Digital Cities Challenge project of the EC, the Digital Transformation Strategy for Sofia was developed. EU experts, our team and over 100 local stakeholders, including Sofia-based companies with a total turnover of over BGN 3.23 billion and over 17,000 employees, took part in the process.
